An interview with Katie

What attracted you to work for Blue Bee?

After working as a designer in various settings from large corporate companies to start-ups, and then freelance for three years I realised that I found the most joy in projects where I was working alongside others who could bring a twist or new element to a project. When I was met with the opportunity to work at Blue Bee, whose collaborative approach was so apparent, I had to take the leap.

What do you enjoy most about your role as a Senior Graphic  Designer?

In my role, I most enjoy seeing the positive impact that our work has made on a business. Starting from the initial meetings, I enjoy getting to know a client, building a deep understanding of what they need as a business, and then creating something that truly elevates them and exceeds their expectations. I therefore most enjoy witnessing the result in the wild (as we like to call it). Seeing the impact the work has had never gets old.

How has the world of graphic design changed over the last few years?

Being a designer over the last few years, like many other industries, we have faced challenges, and it has been difficult at times. As a designer, you realise that good design stops you in your tracks and creates a wonderful lasting impression, great design often goes unnoticed but is clever and deeply understands its purpose. However, bad design sticks out like a sore thumb. It is therefore our responsibility in today’s climate to help people appreciate design and why it is such an important investment for a business. I would therefore say that education on why tailored, highly considered and well-executed design matters is something that has become more important than ever.

What challenges and developments do you foresee in the world of  graphic design in the near future?

In an industry where rapidly evolving technology expands design possibilities, and businesses strive to stand out in saturated markets, exciting opportunities emerge for new kinds promotion through mixed media, more fluid and user-driven design, and unexpected creative solutions. I anticipate that this will change the role of graphic designers and other roles such as motion designers, and illustrators. With the need to be more fluid and multi-skilled, I anticipate a shift in rigid job roles and education courses to allow for a future that’s open to new technology and ways of working.

What sets Blue Bee apart from the competition when looking for Graphic Design services?

At Blue Bee I would say being a small agency is one of our greatest strengths and sets us apart from a lot of other companies. Having a lean team of talented individuals who can play to their strengths, support one another and easily adapt to situations where necessary, makes us a really strong asset that clients trust and can rely on to produce the best creative marketing, web and design solutions.
