An interview with Shaun

What first attracted you to work for Blue Bee?

Although I have been officially employed by Blue Bee for just over 4 years, Mark and I have been friends for many years. When Blue Bee was in its infancy, I helped the company establish the marketing arm of the business whilst being in full time employment. As the company grew, there was a greater need for a full-time marketeer to come into the business, so my job was complete in that regard. The company went from strength to strength, and I continued with my career elsewhere.

When the Pandemic took full effect in March 2020 I was working for a travel business, so of course this was one of the first industries to stop all work.

After being on furlough for 6 months I was itching to get back to work and an opportunity arose to come to Blue Bee full time. Initially I was brought in as Head of Search, but this role quickly evolved as the marketing team continued to grow.

What do you enjoy most about working at Blue Bee?

The variety. I have worked in marketing both client side and agency side but the variety you get when working agency side means that no two days are the same. One day you can be creating adverts for estate agents and the next you are building campaigns for a care home.

There are many aspects to digital marketing. Which ones do you feel are the most beneficial, and are essential for all businesses to do in some capacity?

The honest answer is that they all have their place, but every client is different, so the challenge is always finding the correct mix. I am very much more data driven and analytical than I am creative, so naturally prefer building and optimising SEO and PPC campaigns, but as much as I prefer this form of marketing, it is extremely important to consider every aspect of digital marketing.

Emails, organic social media, social media adverts, content, case studies and blogs are equally important, but it really does depend on the client’s overall marketing goals.

If a client is simply striving for more sales and leads quickly, then creating content and writing blogs won’t be as beneficial as creating a Google Ads campaign that can drive traffic instantly.

Understanding the objectives from the get-go means we can formulate the right plan for the client.

What challenges and trends do you foresee to the world of digital marketing in the near future?

One major challenge is adapting to stricter data privacy regulations and the decline of third-party cookies, which impacts targeting and personalisation. Additionally, ad fatigue and changing consumer behaviours require brands to create more engaging, authentic content.

On the trend side, AI-driven personalisation, voice and visual search and first-party data strategies are becoming increasingly important. The key is staying agile and leveraging emerging technologies to enhance customer experience.

What sets Blue Bee apart from the competition when you are looking for a digital marketing agency?

The team.

We have every angle covered. Marketeers, designers, developers and project managers all working together to create excellent marketing campaigns and websites.

The team have a wealth of experience and can adapt to working for a variety of different businesses at any given moment.

Working in an agency means they can be working on 10 to 20 different things in any given week, and their ability to shift focus is incredible and is by far the best team I have been a part of.
