The Power of Short Form Video

Unless you’ve been living off grid for the past few years you’ll have noticed short form video is taking over. From social media to branding and advertising, its everywhere.

The way we consume content is forever changing, but video and especially short form video is here to stay.

In this article we will cover the rise of short form video and its influence from TikTok and why and how it’s made its way across all aspects of marketing.

The rise of sort form video

TikTok are the leaders in this shift. They were the first to create an app specifically for short form User Generated Content (UGC). With TikTok’s huge success, other platforms quickly followed. YouTube and Instagram are a great example of this. In August 2020 Instagram created ‘Instagram reels’ and was quickly followed by YouTube who created ‘YouTube shorts’ in September 2020. This was a huge shift considering YouTube was originally specifically for long form content.

This new short form content allowed everyone to be a creator and thus the algorithm was born. Social media algorithms analyse the content you watch and interact with and show you more from that genre of content. The algorithms combined with the fact every user can now make their own content has created every niche you could imagine.
